Trips

Jesus said, “As the Father has sent me, so I send you” (John 20:21). Throughout this year and next you will have incredible opportunities to join God on mission among the nations. There are several ways to participate with us. You can help make others aware of the opportunities to serve; you can support those who are going through prayer or financially; or you can apply to go with one of the teams.

Teams that go will participate in several types of ministry: education, evangelism, medical, exposure, and construction. No matter which role you participate in, our ultimate goal is to develop disciples of Jesus Christ who share His heart and vision for the entire world.

For answers to your questions about our trips, please email makedisciples@austinstone.org

A note about trip costs

While international travel is expensive, don't get overwhelmed by the overall cost of the trip you're interested in. A major part of the pre-trip preparation involves raising funds for your trip and we'll teach you how. This process is a major opportunity to rely on God while allowing those who can't physically go to share in your time abroad.

Trip Commitments

Trip Commitments:

Our desire is to be good stewards, financially and spiritually, of the resources that God has given us. We also strive to prepare our teams to show the unity in Christ and a heart of service to those we will meet.

To help us achieve this, we ask each team member to commit to:

  • Actively participate in providing the funds for your trip, either through personal means or fundraising activities. If the full amount of funds is not raised before the trip, the team member agrees to pay the remaining balance within 30 days of returning from the trip
  • Attend the first training meeting and attend at least 80% of subsequent training meetings and debrief sessions
  • Submit to the authority of the team leader(s), to serve with a spirit of humility, and to strive for biblical unity with your team and our national partners.
  • Consistently seek to abide in Christ through daily time in the scriptures and prayer leading up to, during, and after the trip

If you have any questions about these requirements, please email us: makedisciples@austinstone.org

Gabon

Church-Wide - CRU

June 16 – June 29, 2012

Picture yourself having just stepped off the plane in French-speaking Libreville, a bustling city named for freedom situated on the coast of one of the largest rainforest areas left on earth. While many have come to Christ, a large percentage of the population has combined some Christian beliefs with their previously held animistic belief system—where they continue in spiritual darkness.

Every day you’ll talk with university students to help start a spiritual movement on their campus. You'll be using the short films strategy, the JESUS film, and other creative tools to start conversations with students. You will take opportunities to share your faith personally, and disciple students seeking to follow Christ wholeheartedly. You wonder what God will do, and how He will use you for reaching the future leaders of this country.

London

Church-Wide - CRU

June 23 – July 01, 2012

Come with us to London to reach out to some of the hardest to reach people in the world. This is an incredibly effective, low-key way to help influential people from the Middle East hear about Christ's love. London is the main tourist destination for many visitors from the Middle East as they escape the blazing heat of their summer. We will be involved in developing friendships and distributing the New Testament and JESUS films. Come share the love of Christ and have a great time doing it! You will also have time to view biblical artifacts on our private tour of the British Museum and see London in your free time.

France

Church-Wide - CRU

July 08 – July 20, 2012

Come and touch the lives of North African Arabs as they return to their home countries from temporary jobs in Europe. They flood to the port cities of France and Spain every year. These people are from some of the most closed countries in the world. We offer gifts of JESUS DVDs, audio, and written materials to them. Each piece handed out includes an opportunity for them to request follow-up materials and Bibles. This mission outreach is in partnership with multiple agencies. For the past ten years this has been considered one of the most effective evangelistic efforts to reach North Africans in history.

Middle East, Asia

Church-Wide - CRU

May 19 – June 09, 2012

People in Asia are some of the warmest people you will ever meet, despite decades of hardship. The needs in this country are enormous, making it easy to get involved. Join us as we partner with local organizations and individuals. Simply by teaching English and computer skills, we can build friendships that move beyond the classroom setting and share how they can experience God's love and truth. You don't have to be a teacher by trade; if you speak proficient English and are willing to give two weeks of your year to make a lasting contribution, please join! Because of the sensitive nature of work in this country, prior participation with us on a short-term mission trip or other qualifying trip is preferred.

Middle East

Church-Wide - CRU

May 23 – June 09, 2012

People living in this region of the world are kind and hospitable. Unfortunately, most have never heard the name of Jesus, nor have they met anyone who claims to follow Him. God has given us an open door to build friendships as we help them improve their English language skills. If you're willing to give your time to make an eternal impact, we want you! The more we show our love for these people, the more they will realize their need to know God through Jesus. We'll partner with local organizations. We'll interact with them as we teach conversational English. You do not have to be a professional teacher to participate.

Middle East, Asia

Church-Wide - CRU

May 19 – June 01, 2012

As the Soviet Union collapsed around them, this country descended into a bloody civil war that was to destroy any semblance of peace and prosperity in this historic corner of the Russian-speaking world. Our team will travel to villages and establish relationships with villagers through humanitarian aid. Local ministry partners will accompany our team and will continue relationships with the villagers, ultimately establishing house churches. Our travel will take us to a remote region in Asia and at times to a significant elevation. This trip is for the Christian who desires to serve national believers by bringing the message of Jesus to those who never have had the opportunity to hear.
