Dave Barrett: Executive Pastor of Operations

What I do

As Executive Pastor of Operations, my role is to provide strategic direction for the operations of The Austin Stone. In this capacity, I lead our church to keep us organized, supported, forward-thnking, and moving forward to equip and support the saints in the mission of God. Among other ways I hope I'm helpful to our staff, when people need help figuring it out, they seem to end up in my office.

About me

I grew up in Plano, TX when the city was still full of hay meadows and soccer fields. At the ripe old age of 18, I met my future wife Suzanne at Fish Camp just before starting college at Texas A&M. Five years later, we graduated and were married. As newlyweds, we lived in the Dallas area where I started a career as an engineer in the electric utility industry for TXU. Later, following graduation from Southern Methodist University in Dallas with an MBA, Suzanne and I, along with our children Daniel and Anna, moved to Granbury, Texas where I continued a career in corporate management. One year later I was led to pursue full-time ministry and joined the staff of a church plant in Granbury as their Executive Pastor. In July 2008, we moved our family to Austin to join the staff of The Austin Stone.

I placed my trust in Christ at an early age, and continued to grow in my faith as God showed me to a deeper understanding of surrendering my life to Jesus. But, it was mostly through experiences after undergrad that God sometimes joyfully and sometimes painfully moved me from a life lukewarm to the gospel to a life of passion for the glory of God and His plan of redemption for the world.

I currently serve The Austin Stone as the Pastor of Operations, to lead, support, and enable the many areas of ministry and mission of our church. I also have a passion for disciple-making, teaching in the Married Life Class, and leading men to know Jesus and lead their families well. My hope for The Austin Stone is that we would become a church of people who love Jesus and who desperately desire for the people of Austin to know and love Him too.
