John is a F.O.B (Fresh Off the Boat!). He was born in Taipei, Taiwan and immigrated to Houston, TX at the age of 8 to live the "American Dream." Because of his upbringing in Taiwan, he grew up with high exposure to Buddhism.
At age 15, John was exposed to Christianity. This was when his mom was diagnosed with Cancer. His aunt (mom’s younger sister) came to visit one day and told him and his sister if they want their mom to get better, they need to be praying. She took them to a local community church near where they lived and he attended youth group and participated in their activities. Shortly after, when his mom passed, he stopped going to church. It wasn't until the summer of 1993 right before college, where he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior.
John has an B.S. in Advertising from the University of Texas at Austin. For the last 18 years, he has worked in several ad agencies in various corporate organizations. His last 8 years was spent in aviation (his dream job!), where lead the strategic development and planning of United/Continental Airlines comprehensive global suite of onboard products and airport marketing programs including cabin design, onboard amenities, in-flight entertainment, airport lounge programs and corporate brand identity.
In April of 2013, when his best friend and him were sharing a meal together in Chicago, John was sharing with him some of the unexpected challenges that were happening with his current job. His best friend asked if he would be interested in learning more about what his church is doing and the role they are trying to fulfill. He seem to think that John can bring a lot of value with his background and skillset.
Fast forward 9 months later, John made one of the hardest decisions by answering God's call for him and his family to leave his dream job to join the staff at the Austin Stone Community Church on July 2014.
John is married to Emay for 12 years and has a 8 year old daughter (Rachel), 6 year old son (Ethan), 2.5 year old son (Caleb) and baby #4 arriving June of 2015.
John is a true aviation geek! You can ask him everything about aviation and he would love to talk to you about it. He also enjoys running and completed his first marathon in Chicago in 2013.
