Day 14

matthew 5:13-16

Before you begin, take a few moments to quiet your mind and prepare your heart to receive God’s Word. Read the following passage at least twice, and then pray through the points below.

13 "You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet. 14 "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Today's prayer points

God calls us to be salt and light in a world of cultures that are broken and even hostile to His gospel. Pray that God will show us how to engage the cultures of the world while still keeping ourselves distinct and set apart as God's children.

Salt is not useful if it loses its saltiness (5:13). Beg God to help us keep the distinct flavor of the saving grace of Jesus Christ. Pray for boldness in sharing the good news and in going to the nations. Pray that we would not fear or ignore cultures that need the salt and light of the gospel.

Pray that God would remove any fear in those among us He is calling to go live among unreached peoples. Ask God to help us all live as salt and light, so that by His power we can change the brokenness around us with the gospel. Pray that God's perfect love would cast out fear so that we can live as a set-apart people who do not shy away from engaging the nations and their brokenness.
