Delight in the Law of the Lord

"Blessed is the man
who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
but his delight is in the law of the Lord,
and on his law he meditates day and night.
He is like a tree
planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers." (Psalm 1:1-3)

God’s Word does not fail. His counsel does not come to an end, nor does it prove false. He made the world and everything in it. Therefore, He claims all knowledge and understanding of life as we know it, which no other being can claim. All other counsel will prove faulty or incomplete compared to His.

What a gift His written Word is! God has not left us to figure out human nature or our current plight by our own wisdom. Instead, He lovingly and authoritatively communicates with His creation so we can know His wisdom and love toward us. He gave us the Bible so we could see the wonders of His design and understand the mystery of the gospel.

No other book is as worthy of our time and attention as Scripture. God blesses us when we saturate our thoughts in His Word—not because it saves us from the struggles of life but because it teaches us to endure in such suffering without wilting.

His Word guides us in spotting the wicked's counsel and avoiding the scoffer's cynicism. In other words, God's Word prepares us to thrive in a world that wants to grind us back into dust.

In light of this, let's be a people who meditate on God’s Word day and night! May we taste and see that His sweet words of wisdom and counsel surpass any other offering. And may we help those in our care see that the path to wholeness and peace is found through the loving counsel of God's Word.
