What is Students Camp?

Step away from distractions and routines to enjoy the Texas countryside at LoneHollow Ranch this summer! Students Camp is a whole week designed just for 6th–12th graders to have fun and go deeper with God. They can expect teaching and worship sessions, small-group discussions, outdoor games and activities, competitions, free time, and late-night fun!

The theme this year is Stories That Shape Us. Jesus didn’t just teach lessons; He told stories that invite us to see the world differently. At Students Camp, we’ll explore how Jesus’ parables shape our vision, hearts, and lives.

Students will explore all kinds of stories—ones that reveal God’s kingdom, His heart for the lost, His plan for our lives, and His mission to save the world. These aren’t just stories for us to hear; they’re stories that transform us.

Where will students stay?

Students will take charter buses to Vanderpool, Texas, to stay at LoneHollow Ranch (a Young Life camp property). We’ll stay in various lodging facilities, and all rooms are gender-specific. Each room has at least one fully vetted volunteer.

Students will room with the Students Discipleship Community (DCOMM) they attend on Sundays, as selected on their registration form. Students who invited friends will be grouped together.

Who can come to Students Camp?

Any student currently in 6th–12th grade. Our students are also encouraged to invite any friends! We’ll ensure that any invited friends are in the same group as the student who invited them.

Who will lead students during the week?

Students will hang out with their DCOMMs (discipleship communities), which are led by their DCOMM leaders. All leaders at Students Camp will have completed applications, interviews, background checks, child abuse prevention training, and other Austin Stone policy and procedure training. All Students directors, leads, and residents will also be in attendance and will have screened each leader at camp.

Can students bring cell phones or other digital devices? How can I contact my student while they're at camp?

Due to limited Wi-Fi and phone service (and the need to allocate available resources to staff and emergencies), students will not be permitted to use their digital devices during camp. Students may have their devices on bus rides, but these will be collected, labeled, and securely stored in a designated location while on the LoneHollow Ranch property.

Click HERE for our Digital Device Policy.

At check-in, you’ll also receive your student’s leader(s) and congregation staff contact information if you need to reach your student or have questions during camp. Please don’t hesitate to contact leaders and staff while your student is at camp!

What is your safety policy?

Safety is our ministry's top priority and essential to our work. Here are the steps we’ve taken to prioritize the safety of students this summer:

  • Adult Leaders. Every leader/adult attending Students Camp with The Austin Stone will be fully onboarded, including an application, interview, background check, sexual abuse awareness training, and training on Austin Stone policies and procedures.
  • Rule of Three. Middle school students must be in a group of three, with a leader present at all times. High school students must be in a group of at least three students at all times
  • Separate Bus Seating for Girls and Guys. Students of opposite genders are not permitted to sit next to one another on the bus.
  • Security. Our team makes frequent rounds around the camp property to ensure students are where they should be.
  • Medical Staff. We bring at least two licensed medical staff to provide care throughout the week. They’re responsible for dispensing medication and treating minor medical problems as they arise.
  • Ratios. One leader will never be assigned to more than seven students.
  • Travel. We vet bus companies and select what we believe to be an extremely reliable and trustworthy option.

What are camp accommodations like? What will students eat, and what should I do if they have food allergies?

Accommodations

Each housing accommodation includes twin-size bunk beds. Students must bring their own sheets and a pillow. Students are not allowed in the rooms without at least one other student AND a leader.

Meals and Food Allergies

All meals are provided by LoneHollow Ranch and served family style. If your student has food allergies, LoneHollow Ranch is fully equipped to accommodate those needs. Please indicate your student’s food allergies on the registration form. When we get closer to camp, a staff member will reach out to discuss plans to ensure we have all the information needed so your student can have the best week possible.

What if my student has a prescription medication?

All medications must be in the original prescription bottle and submitted to the camp nurse at check-in. The camp nurse will distribute all prescription medications. Students may NOT keep medication (including over-the-counter medicines) with them or in their cabins, except inhalers and/or EpiPens. You’ll complete a medical form for your student, which the nurse will reference whenever they need to provide care during camp.
