Kids Ministry at The Austin Stone

Creating a safe space for children to experience the love of God and the truth of the gospel

What Is Kids Ministry?

Kids Ministry at The Austin Stone is passionate about partnering with parents to teach kids to love God, love the church, love the city, and love the nations. We support parents in their God-given roles as primary spiritual leaders of their family by prioritizing seven core values—safety, parent trust, leadership development, gospel-centered learning, small groups, church integration, and parent discipleship. We seek to uphold these values at our Sunday programming, special family events, and all other gatherings.

What We Do

7 Basic Truths

Designed as a theological framework for children, the 7 Basic Truths summarize the entirety of the gospel in kid-friendly language. Our hope is for kids to not simply memorize these truths, but believe them wholeheartedly, apply them to their lives, and share them with others!

What We Do

Through our Sunday programming, we hope to demonstrate and teach kids about the importance of studying the Bible and spending time in community with other believers.

Sunday Programming

Each Sunday, preschool and elementary school kids spend time in both a small and large group setting. During the large group time, children get to participate in truth-filled worship together and learn about the Bible before splitting into age-specific small groups. In these smaller groups, kids spend time studying Scripture while growing in their relationships with one another and their leaders!

Chronological Curriculum

In our Sunday programming, we teach a curriculum that walks kids through the entire story of the Bible in chronological order each year. We believe that it’s important for children to understand that the stories of the Bible are all related and point to Jesus! By walking through the history of redemption in a kid-friendly way, we hope to help kids understand their need for Jesus and His gift of salvation for them!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect on my first visit?

First of all, welcome! We’re so excited to see you! Upon arrival, follow the signs to the Kids check-in area. If you need any help, find a volunteer wearing an Austin Stone shirt—they’ll point you in the right direction. Because of our commitment to safety, you’ll check your child(ren) in using our check-in system. If your child has any special concerns or allergies that our team needs to know, please tell the volunteers at check in. We want to do the best we can to safely accommodate everyone! During the programming, you can expect your kid(s) to hear a lesson about the gospel told in kid-friendly language, worship as a group, complete activities that relate to the lesson, and learn a monthly memory verse in a fun and safe environment!

How do I check my child in on Sundays?

We’ll have signs pointing you to the check-in area where one of our Kids volunteers will be available to help. Because of our commitment to safety, every child will need to be checked in and out using our check-in system. If it’s your first visit, we’ll ask for a bit of family information—your full name, your child’s full name, their birthday, your contact information, and any special instructions or allergy information. Once your child has been checked in, you’ll receive corresponding parent and child stickers which will be used to pick your child up after the worship service has ended.

How do you prioritize safety?

We recognize that God has entrusted us with the safety of kids while they’re in our care, and we prioritize their well-being. Each Kids environment is supervised by multiple volunteers who have undergone an extensive onboarding process that includes an application, in-person interview, background check, policy training, and completion of an accredited sexual abuse awareness training. All of our Kids areas are secure. Only parents and approved volunteers are allowed back in the children’s hallways. We also contract police officers to be in or around all Kids environments.

If you have any additional questions regarding the practices or policies surrounding children’s safety, please reach out to your congregation’s Kids director.

My child has special needs. What steps are taken to make your environments inclusive?

We want our Kids Ministry to reflect the truth of Scripture that there should be no distinction in the body of Christ. As such, our ministry strives to provide an inclusive, gospel-centered environment for children who face unique challenges related to their physical, mental, behavioral, medical, or emotional needs. If you have a child with special needs or would like more information, please reach out to your congregation’s Kids director.
