Eric was eight when he found out about his father’s death. The one time that he met his father, a year earlier, his mother recalls as being one of the happiest she had seen him. The news of his father’s death, a father he longed to have a relationship with, filled Eric with anger and caused him to lash out.
Around the same time, an organization called Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) partnered Eric with a mentor named Patrick. They met weekly to play games, and Patrick fostered a relationship that allowed him to share the love of Christ with Eric. When the circumstances surrounding the death of Eric’s father were further complicated, Patrick was there to lead Eric through the tough truths.
