Discussion Guide

Reflect & Discuss

  1. What dangers arise when we view spiritual disciplines—holy habits—as ends rather than means of grace? How have you seen that play out in someone else’s or your own life?
  2. Think about your life six months from now. What would you like to be different about it in at least one of the following areas?
    a. Growing in understanding and application of God and His Word
    b. Gathering with other believers (Sundays, in groups, through close friendships, etc.)
    c. Giving of one’s time, talents, and treasure
    d. Caring for the city or nations

Follow-up question: How could the holy habits, practiced on your own and in community, help you pursue growth in the area you identified?

Group Discussion

Whether it is with your group, family, accountability partners, or some other collection of people, we want you to discuss habits as a means of grace with others.

  • Option A - Read through the first session of Holy Habits together, pausing to answer and reflect on the included questions.
  • Option B - Study Colossians 3:1–4. What insights and applications do you draw from the text? Conclude your time by praying together. Ask two things: one, that you would grow in your understanding and experience of the holy habits as a means of grace, and two, that you would rely on the Holy Spirit as you join Him in His work of transforming you to look more like Christ.
