Hebrews 6:13-20

  1. Read Hebrews 6:13–20. The author of Hebrews references Abraham as someone who, through patience and faith, inherited the promises of God.
  2. To better understand the author’s example, read Genesis 22:1–19. Think about the story of Abraham in Genesis 22. Would anything in your life right now benefit from imitating Abraham’s example of patience and faith? What would it look like for you to patiently wait in faith?
  3. Notice the phrase “obtained the promise” in Hebrews 6:15. What do you think it means? Discuss.
  4. Read Hebrews 6:17–18 again. When God makes a promise, we can be certain He will do it. What is one of God’s promises in the Bible you have clung to throughout your life as a Christian?
  5. Read Hebrews 6:19–20. What is the “sure and steadfast anchor of the soul” this passage is talking about? Explain.
  6. 1 Chronicles 16:11 says, “Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!” Psalm 16:11 says, “In your presence there is fullness of joy.” Meditate on how, if you are in Christ, you have direct access to God’s presence. He invites you to come into it. Spend some time in prayer. Seek His presence together.
