Hebrews 1:2-3

  1. Read Hebrews 1:1–3. Immediately following the mention of God’s Son, the text makes seven affirmations about Jesus in verses 2–3. What are they? Why do you think the author has chosen to begin his letter this way?
  2. Read Hebrews 1:3 and John 14:8–11. How do these two passages fit together? In your own words, what do you think it means that Jesus is the radiance of the glory of God, the exact imprint of His nature?
  3. Read Colossians 1:15–23. What similar themes do you see between Hebrews 1:1–3 and Colossians 1:15–23?
  4. Read Hebrews 1:3b again. Do you ever struggle to believe that Christ’s purifying work for your sin is a completed work? In what ways do you try to “fix” your own sin or guilt? Be honest.
  5. Spend a few minutes in prayer with one another using Hebrews 1:1–3 to guide your prayers.
