2 Chronicles 32 | Isaiah 36–39

  1. As you think back over your life, what moment stands out when you felt extremely fearful? Give some details about that situation and also talk about how you responded to that fear.
  2. Read An Overview of Hezekiah's Later Reign. Briefly, what stands out to you about the later life and reign of King Hezekiah?
  3. Open your Bibles to 2 Chronicles 32. As you scan the chapter, what steps did Hezekiah take to strengthen the city physically and spiritually, and how did he organize the people to face the Assyrian threat?
  4. Hezekiah spoke truth and courage into his people in the face of fear. Who in your life has inspired confidence and courage in a similar way and how did that affect you?
  5. Notice the contrast between the words of Sennacherib and Hezekiah. One speaks despair. The other speaks faith. Think about the different voices you let speak into your life. How do you discern between voices of truth and voices of untruth?
  6. How does the Assyrian assault end? Identify both the human and divine actions mentioned in the story.
  7. Read 2 Chronicles 32:24-26. Like so many of the kings before him, Hezekiah became proud of his own perceived self-importance. But Hezekiah also did something that most kings before him failed to do: he repented of his pride. Why do you think pride is such an offense to God? Are there any areas of your heart where you have grown proud? Spend some time reflecting with one another, and then go to God together in humble confession and repentance.
