2 Kings 21 | 2 Chronicles 33

  1. Read From Hezekiah to Manasseh and An Overview of Manasseh. Briefly, what stands out to you about the life and reign of King Manasseh?
  2. Think about how fast Manasseh overturned the legacy of a godly father. How do you think such a collapse happened so quickly? What does this reveal about the devastating power of sin to tear down in moments what faithfulness builds over a lifetime? Do you have any examples from your own life where you have seen that happen?
  3. Read 2 Chronicles 33:1-9. What does this passage say provoked God to anger, and why do you think those things matter so much to God?
  4. Read 2 Chronicles 33:10-17. The Bible uses very few words to describe the very big change that happened in this passage: "Then Manasseh knew that the LORD was God" (33:13). What is another way to describe what happened or how would you say this in your own words? Also, who is somebody you know who has had a really surprising repentance, turning to the LORD when it seemed completely unlikely? Share that story with the group!
  5. Read From Manasseh to Amon. Amon witnessed his father's repentance and the blessing that came with it, but he rebelled against God anyway. What does his story reveal about the deceptive nature of sin?
  6. Hebrews 3:7-8 and Psalm 95:7-8 both say, "Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts." God stands ready to receive your confession, forgive your sin, and show you the depths of His grace and goodness. But you must come to Him. So be honest: are there sins you've been hiding? Are there places where your conviction has grown dull or cold? Like Manasseh crying out from bondage in Babylon, humble yourself today and turn to the Lord. Don't wait another minute. Spend some time reflecting, and then go to God together in prayer and find grace!
