Hebrews 10:1-18

  1. Read Hebrews 10:1–18. What was the law unable to do under the old covenant according to Hebrews 10:1–4?
  2. Some Christians under-emphasize the deceptive and pervasive nature of sin, seemingly ignoring their sin when they should be making war on it. On the other hand, other Christians believe that there is nothing in us except for sin, seemingly ignoring the many passages that talk about the new spiritual life God has given those He has saved. Look at Romans 6. What is a more helpful way to think about sin and the Christian life?
  3. Notice each time the word “sanctified” is used in this passage. To be sanctified means to be made holy—to become like Christ. Hebrews 10:10 says “we have been sanctified.” But Hebrews 10:14 says “we are being sanctified.” Which is it? Are we already sanctified, or are we becoming sanctified?
  4. Do you sense that the Holy Spirit is sanctifying you and making you become progressively more like Christ in a particular area of your life? Be specific.
  5. Spend some time in prayer with one another, asking God to give you a right view of your sin and a right view of your sanctification. Ask God to continue sanctifying you in specific areas.
