Every year, we partner with Academy 4 to teach leadership principles to every 4th-grade student at Travis Heights Elementary School, an economically disadvantaged school in Austin.
The primary way to volunteer is by serving as a mentor during your lunch break on the last Friday of every month from 1–2:30p.m. These meetings allow you to make a positive difference through relationships by spending time answering workbook questions and playing games.
We equip mentors with practical training, inspiration, leadership curriculum, and tools for fun activities. You'll begin the mentorship meeting with a large-group leadership lesson alongside other mentors and mentees, and then split into pairs.
We need at least 80 volunteers from Downtown so every student has a mentor!
There are also three other ways you can serve with Academy 4! See details below:
- Stand in as a substitute mentor as needed and as available
- Be a Spark Club Leader and help lead clubs for various activities (including sports, cooking, music, or art) from 11:45am–1pm on the last Friday of every month
- Be an A4 Crew Member and help set up, greet, or clean up
