Equipping the church to engage and serve the marginalized and hurting in our city.

About Us

We are For the City because we love the city.

For the City wants to see the body of Christ engaged in every issue of brokenness and injustice in our city. We empower people to care for others experiencing brokenness and resource nonprofits and grassroots initiatives toward that end.

What Does For the City Do?

In 2009, For the City formed as a grassroots outreach to love our neighbors in the St. John neighborhood. Now, we serve as a local mission team that continues to love our neighbors throughout the city of Austin through resourcing nonprofits with volunteers and financial support, and through partnered initiatives with other organizations. We’re committed to seeking justice and mercy in Austin wherever there is injustice, brokenness, or unaddressed need.

2:44 Cares Initiative with Steve Teng

When the pandemic began in 2020, we knew there would be a greater need than ever before. So, we sought to care for the most vulnerable in our city. Over the year, For the City:

  • Mobilized 835 people to serve others during the pandemic through various socially-distanced, safe opportunities.
  • Mentored 389 girls, ages 7-18, through Total City Sports Volleyball.
  • Coordinated 36 projects with local nonprofit partners to serve marginalized communities.
  • Provided over 12,000 meals to first responders.
  • Participated in a grassroots effort that resulted in over $800,000 distributed to empower local churches to serve their community.
