Read Ecclesiastes 5:1–3. This passage paints a portrait of a foolishly casual person toward God. Using your imagination, try to describe the portrait of someone today who fits the description of Ecclesiastes 5:1–3.
God’s holiness is synonymous with His absolute perfection in everything—His complete separation from sin and His unrivaled majesty and glory. In your mind, try to imagine worshiping God at the next Sunday gathering. Envision not only the time spent singing but also all of the other aspects of the gathering: fellowship, prayer, communion, and sitting under the preaching of God’s Word. In what ways would your worship of God change if you came into worship with the holiness of God saturating your thoughts and emotions?
Read Ecclesiastes 5:4–7. Consider the commitments you make, especially in the context of your Christian community. How well do you follow through on your commitments to worship God in your small group, at your congregation gatherings, and with your accountability partners?
Ecclesiastes 5:7 ends by saying “…God is the one you must fear.” Are there any areas of your life where you are fearing something or someone more than you fear God?
Spend a few moments meditating on the holiness of God. Fill your mind and heart with thoughts about His attributes. Then go to God in prayer, offering Him worship with your words and whole heart.
